The former president has followed through on his promise months ago by endorsing North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson for governor.
During his speech in Greensboro, Trump drew parallels between Robinson and the renowned civil rights leader, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Trump likened Robinson to a supercharged Martin Luther King, Jr.
Trump said that Robinson was taken aback by his comparison to the renowned civil rights hero, telling him he thought he was better than King. He is like Martin Luther King Jr. multiplied by two.
Trump said Robinson and the other contenders for the North Carolina Republican primary had his support.
With the former president’s backing, impressive fundraising, and support from GOP base voters, Robinson has emerged as the leading candidate for the GOP nomination for governor.
Because of his outspoken and unfavorable comments about LGBTQ+ rights and other topics, Robinson’s primary opponents and trial attorney Bill Graham and State Treasurer Dale Folwell claimed he couldn’t win the general election.
Trump praised Robinson, who delivered a speech at the campaign event as well, for being a wonderful guy and a wonderful, natural orator. When asked about Robinson’s meteoric rise to stardom, Trump vaguely remembered his 2018 viral speech in support of gun rights and support for police officers that he gave before the Greensboro City Council. As a result, Robinson got a seat on the National Rifle Association’s board.
Robinson, born and raised in Greensboro, expressed his gratitude for Trump’s support in a press release and expressed his eagerness to team up with the president to win the election in November and restore stability to our nation and state.
