The family of a mother slain by a gang member who immigrated to the US illegally has criticized the Biden administration for the president’s seeming disinterest in the impact the tragedy has had on them.
Thirty-seven-year-old Rachel Morin was murdered a year ago while out for a walk in Hartford County, Maryland, on the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail by a suspected MS-13 gang member and illegal immigrant, and her family is calling out President Joe Biden and his administration for neglecting the border and their pain. In a statement released by Randolph Rice, the attorney representing Morin’s family, the family said they were “deeply disappointed” by the president’s “lack of acknowledgment and compassion” toward their plight.
Rice called the silence “deafening” and said that it also “sends a troubling message” to American citizens that their “safety and well-being” isn’t a priority for the Biden administration. He said the president’s “lack of concern” should be “a reminder” to Americans that the Biden administration disregards crime victims when illegal aliens commit the crimes. The attorney said the Morin family and “many others” deserve to be recognized by their leaders in an effort to prevent future tragedies.
Morin was murdered on Aug. 5, 2023, while out for a walk. Richard Tobin, Morin’s boyfriend, contacted law enforcement and reported her missing when she did not return. Her body was discovered the next day alongside the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail. Almost a year later, in June 2024, the Tulsa Police Department tracked down and arrested a 23-year-old suspect named Victor Martinex Hernandez, an El Salvadoran national in the US illegally who allegedly has connections with MS-13.
In contrast to Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Trump made several efforts to honor Morin’s family. The former president invited Morin’s brother to address the Republican National Convention (RNC) two months ago, and her mother joined him at a recent press conference at the southern border.
Martinez Hernandez is accused of raping Morin, bludgeoning her, and then strangling her to death. Prosecutors described it as one of the most horrifying cases in the history of Harford County. He was indicted in July and is due to appear in court in October to stand trial.
