Mom of Baby Injured in Hot Coffee Attack Breaks Silence

The mom of a baby injured during a horrifying public assault has gone public with her story, describing how her nine-month-old baby was left fighting for his life with serious burns all over his body.

Baby Luka, from Brisbane, Australia, was enjoying a picnic in the park with his mother when a stranger randomly approached them and poured a flask of boiling hot coffee all over the child. The baby’s mother rushed to the hospital with her child, who has since undergone five major surgeries at Queensland Children’s Hospital.

The child will unfortunately be scarred for the rest of his life, but doctors continue to fight to ensure that there will be minimal long-term damage to his body. Various treatments have since been deployed, and will be deployed over many years, including last therapies.

Speaking to local radio, the child’s mother describes how she rarely visits the park after the attack, and that when the assault took place, she was enjoying time with her other mom friends.

“I was only at the park for five minutes, if that, and I was taking photos of my son playing, and he came over from behind and threw this liquid onto him and ran away,” the mother said, adding that she immediately panicked and didn’t know what the liquid was. Her baby then began screaming and she claims she could see his “skin peeling off.”

The mother described how one of the other mothers in the group immediately stood up and ran after the man, but he was “very, very fast” and she couldn’t catch up with him.

According to Queensland Police Detective Inspector Paul Dalton, the man who committed the assault was “aware of police methodologies” and was able to escape the authorities so well that he eventually fled the country entirely.

“This is probably one of the most complex and sometimes frustrating investigations I’ve had to be involved in and lead,” Dalton said on Monday.

It looks like it isn’t just major American cities where you have to worry about the safety of your family…
