If you’ve ever lost a pet, even temporarily, you probably already know that most missing pets either find their way back home or are picked up by somebody close to your home. Dogs, in particular, often make their way to their favorite spot in the park and eventually find their way home, with or without help. But in some extreme circumstances, dogs go missing for very long periods of time…and may be picked up far away from their home.
And that’s exactly what happened to one family in Pensacola, Florida, who lost their pet Pitbull, Andora, this year. The family have gone public with their story, revealing how their beloved dog was eventually found some 900 miles away in Enid, Oklahoma. Brenna Denmark, the dog’s owner, rented a car and drove all the way to Oklahoma to pick up her dog when she found out the news.
The story goes like this:
Destiny Druse, a resident of Enid and a pet groomer by trade, found the poor Pitbull by her house and made several posts on social media asking for help finding the dog’s owner. Eventually, one of Destiny’s friends, who was also a pet groomer, brought a chip reader to her home and scanned the dog. That’s when they found that the dog’s name was Andora.
Speaking to local media, Druse said that they spoke the dog’s name out loud, at which point “her ears perked up like she hadn’t heard her name in forever.”
At this point they knew the dog’s name, but they didn’t know her owners. So, the pair filed a found-pet report and hoped that the owners would eventually see the message – and they did. Only ten minutes after posting the report, they received a phone call from Andora’s owners asking where the dog was found. Amazed at how far she had traveled, they said that they had never heard of the town of Enid, and couldn’t believe just how many miles away she was.
And if that wasn’t wild enough, the owners still don’t know how the dog got there. Their best guess, they say, is that she may have been stolen.
You can see pictures of the beautiful grey dog here.
Speaking to local media, Brenna described how she doesn’t live in the “best neighborhood” and that there are people around who like to fight pitbulls, adding that she believed her dog had been stolen for that purpose.
Oh, and did we mention that the dog was missing for two whole years?
Something strange definitely happened there…we’re just glad the poor dog is OK!
