Mike Pence Dismisses January 6th Rumors, Defends Trump’s Protest Words

(ConservativeCore.com)- Former Vice President Mike Pence accused Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of pursuing a “politically-charged prosecution” of former President Donald Trump.

While appearing on ABC News’s “This Week” on Sunday, Pence said he was “taken aback” by the idea that Alvin Bragg would indict a former president while a crime wave is erupting in his city.

He said Bragg’s belief that targeting Trump is a “top priority” should tell people everything they need to know about “the radical left in this country.” Calling it a “politically charged prosecution,” Pence said he doesn’t believe the American people want to see Trump indicted, especially in light of all the other things happening in the country today.

In a Truth Social rant on Saturday, Trump falsely claimed that he would be arrested on Tuesday and demanded that his fans “PROTEST.”

Host Jonathan Karl cited the former president’s Truth Social post and asked Pence to respond, given what happened on January 6 after Trump called on his fans to protest at the Capitol.

Pence said if Trump is “arrested” on Tuesday as he claimed, his supporters who choose to protest must do it in a peaceful and “lawful manner.” He said the violence that happened during the Capitol riot and the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020 was a “disgrace.” He said the country will not tolerate it and called for those who commit violence to be “prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

As it turned out, the “arrest” Trump claimed was happening on Tuesday was untrue.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office cannot bring charges against Trump until after the grand jury investigating him over the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels has completed its probe and presented its recommendations.

Fox News reported on Monday that the grand jury will be hearing additional testimony from another witness on Wednesday, and the earliest an indictment could happen would be next week. What’s more, if Trump is indicted, it is unlikely that he would be arrested. Instead, he would travel to Manhattan for arraignment and then return home to Mar-a-Lago.
