Microsoft Wants You To Set Woke Picture Backgrounds, Seriously

Microsoft recently encouraged users to personalize their computers and laptops and share in the celebration of pride.

The tech giant has created special themes for users’ desktops and home pages to commemorate gay pride month. These themes feature LGBT flags.

Microsoft Outlook offers five themes inspired by the LGBTQIA+ community’s flags for users to install. The five themes include Pride, Bisexual, Non-binary, Lesbian, and Transgender flags.

Microsoft announced that the changes made for Pride month would be permanent and not just limited to June.

The new software’s current limitation to Mac products means that not everyone will have the opportunity to bedazzle their computers with gay pride.

This initiative follows North Face’s recent campaign during Pride Month to advertise Drag and LGBT clothing for children.

Microsoft’s Pride focuses on the intersectionality of the LGBTQIA+ movements across racial, cultural, and geographic boundaries. The project uses stories, products, and metaverse events to draw attention to the interconnected challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals and advocates for a unified global response.

They made a global donation of $170,000 to LGBTQIA+ nonprofits to commemorate the beginning of their campaign. They have contributed $8 million in conjunction with their staff since 2021.

Microsoft Unlocked is a new digital platform that features stories about innovation and personal experiences. The focus of their first issue was, again, Pride. Microsoft said in the upcoming months, there would be more LGBTQIA+ narratives and immersive experiences available on various subjects such as accessibility, sustainability, culture, science, cutting-edge technology, and more.

In 2022, LGBTQIA+ communities at Microsoft released a statement that asked everyone to share in their metaverse event, “Pride has no borders.”

Microsoft’s Xbox division also fully embraced the LGBT+ celebrations in 2022, with a number of new projects and products with a Pride theme. A user could choose to donate their points earned from Microsoft Rewards directly to an LGBT+ charity.
