The sequel reportedly promises to maintain the gritty, supernatural essence that made the original film a cult classic. Set in the same universe as its predecessor, “Constantine 2” aims to explore new depths of the character’s struggles and the otherworldly forces he contends with.
Reeves has hinted at the direction the sequel will take, suggesting an even more intense journey for the exorcist with the ability to perceive the true forms of angels and demons.
“John Constantine’s going to be tortured even more,” Keanu Reeves said.

A Collaborative Effort Years in the Making
The development of “Constantine 2” has been a labor of love for all involved. Director Francis Lawrence expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the collaborative process that has brought them to this point.
“Akiva [Goldsman] is writing, and Keanu and Akiva and I have been collaborating, and I think we have some really, really great ideas that we’re super, super excited about. And I think we’re pretty close on having an object that is really workable,” Lawrence said.
“We’ve been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios, and they said, ‘OK.’ So, we’re going to try and write a script,” Keanu Reeves said.
The original “Constantine” film, released in 2005, was based on DC Comics’ “Hellblazer” series. It introduced audiences to John Constantine, a cynical exorcist and occult detective with the unique ability to perceive and interact with half-angels and half-demons on Earth. The film’s blend of supernatural horror, action, and existential themes struck a chord with viewers, earning it a dedicated following over the years.
“We’ve had the character in the back of our minds for 20 years, just kind of percolating on ideas, and stories and characters we love, and ideas we love,” Lawrence also said.
