To bolster fundraising efforts, the 46th incumbent President Joe Biden delivered some humorous remarks via social media after testing positive for COVID-19. In a post made on the platform “X” (formerly known as Twitter), Biden made an initial post that simply read, “I’m Sick”. This referred to the recent announcement that the President had tested positive for COVID-19. Two minutes later, in a reply to the first post, the President wrote, “Of Elon Musk…” and claimed that Musk and those aligned with him were attempting to buy the upcoming 2024 general presidential election. White House Press Secretary Kaine Jean-Pierre claimed the president is experiencing mild symptoms and is fully carrying out his duties while self-isolating in Delaware. Biden’s Social Media remarks are targeted toward Musk after the billionaire announced he fully endorsed Donald Trump for President and said he would be donating $45 million monthly to a political PAC aligned with Trump. These statements came after Trump was nearly assassinated in Bulter, Pennsylvania while hosting one of his trademark rallies.
Trump and National Republicans have increased fundraising efforts exponentially. In a recent report by the Financial Times, Trump and groups associated with him hauled in over $400 million between April and June 2024, a number that almost matches the amount Trump raised in the entire 2016 presidential campaign in which he achieved a remarkable upset victory over Hillary Clinton to become the 45th president. Small, grassroots donors across the country gave funding to Trump after his criminal conviction in New York, and affluent billionaires also pitched in.
In an article published by the Associated Press in early July, Trump’s campaign reported raising some $331 Million in the second quarter of 2024, outpacing Joe Biden and Democrats who collected $264 million. The Trump campaign also reported that it had $284 million in “cash on hand” while the Biden campaign claimed it had $240 million following the first debate on June 27th.
